About Open Recalls on Used Vehicles

This information can also be found on the Vehicle Details and Vehicle Listing pages of the Carfax Vehicle History Report. Keep in mind, though, that the information listed on the Carfax Vehicle History Report and the Safecar.gov site may not be up-to-date, and that recently announced recalls may not show up.

It’s also worth noting that there’s a certain period of time between when a recall repair is made and when that repair is noted on these websites. This means that a recall that’s been repaired could well appear as open on Carfax or Safecar.gov for a short period of time.

In general, open recalls are tended to prior to delivery, but this is not always the case. You should question your dealer about any open recalls and the most recent status available, prior to purchasing any used vehicle. Recalls are typically repaired by manufacturer-authorised dealerships at no cost to the purchaser.
